1. Can you remove it without damaging the ceiling?

YES! Works perfectly on popcorn and textured ceilings. Always take it down and/or remove it slowly and carefully.

2. How hard is the ball? can you hear it hitting the ceiling every time? I think my son would love this, but I don't want it to be loud.

Ball is soft and squishy. Makes very little sound and you don't need to hit the backboard to play... Just make it through the hoop!

3. Does the ball stay in the net? If so, how do you get the ball down from the net if the ceiling is too high?

The Ball never stays in the net. You shoot or throw it through the hoop and it falls right back to you.

4. Can this be installed on a popcorn type ceiling?

Sure I don't see why not, if anything buy a couple extra command Velcro strips to adhere better. We put it up months ago and it has never moved or become unstuck.
